Interesting Facts

  • To shoot the film, Cameron rented the MBS Media Campus (formerly known as Manhattan Beach Studios) in Southern California for a period of 5 years. The characteristic features of this site are an "aggressive" program to save water resources, the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products and paints, as well as a number of other "green" programs. Cameron intends to install solar panels in the studio and make both films using solar energy. The cost of installing the appropriate equipment will cost the director $ 5 million.
  • James Horner was supposed to write the music for the film, but he tragically died.
  • According to director James Cameron, Kate Winslet performed all the tricks underwater on her own.
  • Kate Winslet spent 7 minutes and 14 seconds underwater, surpassing Tom Cruise's record underwater shooting time (6 minutes) in the action movie Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
  • Two water tanks were built at Manhattan Beach Studios. The second one was larger, with a volume of 956,352 and a little liters. The tank had built-in units for creating waves and currents. Cameras for filming were installed around its perimeter, as well as cameras that monitored the people in the tank. Floating white balls covered the surface of the water to eliminate glare.
