How to calculate the checksum of a barcode
1. | Add up the numbers in even places of the bar code | 7+9+4+3+9+1=33 |
2. | Multiply the resulting amount by three | 33*3=99 |
3. | Add up the numbers in odd places of the bar code (except for the check digit itself) | 9+8+9+3+3+0=32 |
4. | Add the numbers obtained in paragraphs 2 and 3 | 99+32=131 |
5. | Drop the tens | 131-130=1 |
6. | Subtract from the number 10 received in paragraph 5 | 10-1=9 |
The result must match the check digit, which allows the "naked eye" to assess the authenticity of the bar code and the quality of the goods.
