Description

1950, into the house of a wealthy Neapolitan family straight from Versailles delivered a luxury carriage bed for a baby who is about to be born right in the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. A girl was born, and she was named Parthenope in honor of the ancient Greek nymph, whose name was once called Naples. The ideal girl lived to the fullest: she changed lovers and hobbies, tried to start a career as an actress, studied to be an anthropologist and danced until morning. The brilliant life of the darling of fate was overshadowed by only one event — the suicide of brother Rafael, who faded away in the rays of a bright Parthenope.

Interesting Facts

  • In Greek mythology, Parthenope is a siren who committed suicide when she failed to charm Odysseus. Her body was washed up by the current in the place where Castel del Ovo now stands. It is a medieval fortress on an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, connected by a narrow isthmus to Naples.
  • The end credits say that the film is dedicated to the memory of Luke Kanfora. The body of the Canfora costume designer was discovered in the sea near Capri on the morning of September 1, 2023, a few days before the completion of work on the film. The cause of death was never determined. Kanfora was 51 years old. He has worked with the film director on several occasions. Paolo Sorrentino, for example, in the 2013 Italian-French drama "The Great Beauty" or in the miniseries "The Young Pope" (2016).
