Description
Moscow, 1996. Andrey Rubanov, a young and enterprising banker, has a wife named Irma and a small child. He also shares over a million dollars with his friend Misha. Seeing themselves as the future elite of the new state—the oligarchs—they get involved in a massive deal. However, it turns out that the friends have been lured into a large-scale scam to embezzle billions from the state treasury. After his arrest, Andrey ends up in a crowded communal cell of the "Matrosskaya Tishina" prison—a purgatory where he must become a different person in order to survive and return to the world he once knew.
