Why gasoline prices rise and fall in Uzbekistan:

December 15, 2020, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan explained why gasoline is sold at different prices at different gas stations, and imported gasoline can cost less than produced in Uzbekistan, and also why prices can rise and fall over time.

Taking into account the fact that from May 1 this year. business entities, including gas stations (gas stations) buy gasoline through exchange trading, gasoline prices at different gas stations may be different, as they depend on how much it was purchased for each particular gas station.

Thus, pricing for gasoline does not depend on the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, nor on other government agencies, but on the starting price of the manufacturer (a particular refinery), supply (how much gasoline is put up for exchange trading) and demand for it (how much buyers plan to buy).

Earlier, before the adoption of Decree No. PP-4664 in Uzbekistan, there was state regulation of retail prices for various brands of gasoline and diesel fuel. Since May 1, that is, more than six months since the introduction of this market mechanism, domestic refineries have already been selling motor gasoline exclusively through exchange trading.

A lot of imported gasoline is also sold through auctions, if it is imported into Uzbekistan, and it can really be put up for auction at a lower price. And gas stations will be able to sell such gasoline until the volume of this batch runs out. In this case, we are talking about one-time deliveries and specific agreements between the supplier of imported gasoline for each individual batch. This is evidence of market relations, when only the stock exchange will show what kind of gasoline and at what price will be sold by the same gas station.

Thus, the Market mechanism for the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel allows both refineries and gas stations to operate in conditions of healthy competition. As already noted, now the increase or decrease in gasoline prices depends on the specific supply and demand. In particular, immediately after the introduction of the market mechanism, already on May 3, the auctions held at the JSC "Uzbek Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange" showed a decrease in the price of gasoline offered for sale.

Oil depots of JSC "Uzbekneftegaz", gas stations and other legal entities that purchase gasoline for their own needs take part in the exchange trading. Bidding is conducted freely, transparently and with equal access for all categories of buyers.

The introduction of a market mechanism for the sale of gasoline has increased the transparency of this process.

Thus, exchange quotations or weighted average prices for commodity resources sold through exchange trading are determined on a weekly basis and published on the official website of UzEX JSC. www.uzex.uz every Monday until 17:00.
