Banknote denominations
The national currency of Uzbekistan - sum (UZS, code 153), was put into circulation on July 1, 1994
1 sum consists of 100 tiyins.
There were the following types of banknotes withdrawn from circulation - 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500. Banknotes in circulation: 1,000 soums dated September 1, 2001, 5,000 soums dated July 1, 2013 ., 10,000 soums dated March 10, 2017, 50,000 soums dated August 22, 2017, 100,000 soums dated February 22, 2019, 2,000 soums and 20,000 soums dated June 14, 2021, and 200,000 soums dated July 15 2022 From August 26, 2021, banknotes of 5,000 and 10,000 soums with a new design were put into circulation. Banknotes of 2013 and 2017 in circulation retained their solvency. From December 22, 2021, banknotes in denominations of 50,000 and 100,000 soums with a new design were put into circulation. Banknotes of 2017 and 2019 in circulation have retained their solvency.
Banknotes of 1, 3, 5, 10, 25 soums were withdrawn from circulation on March 1, 2020. Banknotes of 50 and 100 soums were withdrawn from circulation on July 1, 2019, 200 and 500 were withdrawn from circulation on July 1, 2020. Also the same thing happened with coins of denominations less than 50 and 100 soums of samples 2001 & mdash; 2002, 2004 and 2009.
From July 2, 2018, new coins of 50 (fifty), 100 (one hundred), 200 (two hundred), 500 (five hundred) soums are put into circulation. Along with banknotes in circulation, coins issued into circulation are obligatory to be accepted at face value in all types of payments by all business entities and the population without restrictions. Coins of 50 soums of the sample of 2001-2002, coins of 100 soums of the sample of 2004 and 2009, as well as banknotes of 50 and 100 soums of the sample of 1994, which are in circulation, will be accepted for all types of payments without restrictions until July 1, 2019. These banknotes and coins entering the cash desks of banks are not allowed to be put back into circulation. Banknotes of 200 and 500 soums will be accepted for all types of payments without restrictions in parallel with coins of a new type until July 1, 2020, from July 1, 2019, banknotes of such denominations arriving at the cash desks of banks are not allowed to be reissued.
Sum is the only legal tender on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Article 122 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Article 11 of the Law "On the Fundamentals of State Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan", as well as the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 3, 1993 year No. 952-XII).
