General information about public transport in Tashkent

Tashkent has a developed transport infrastructure covering almost 100% of the entire territory of the city.

Public transport in Tashkent is represented by the following types : buses , trolleybuses (until May 1, 2010), trams , (until May 2, 2016), fixed-route taxi, underground .

Association Toshshahartranskhizmat unites all carriers providing services for the transportation of the population by public transport.
JSC "Toshshahartranskhizmat" includes: Bus depot №1 , Bus depot №2 , Bus depot №4 , Bus depot №5 , Bus depot №7 , Bus depot №8 , Bus depot №12 , Bus depot №18 , LLC "RAF" , МТА Ltd "Inter Trans Service" Sadaf auto business and other organizations.

The daily passenger turnover on public transport in Tashkent is more than 1.5 million people. Currently, JSC "Toshshahartranskhizmat" serves 128 city bus routes, 1 suburban route, 35 fixed-route taxi lines. There are also 5 metro lines with 43 stations.

According to the results of 9 months of 2021, the volume of passenger traffic in Tashkent amounted to 102.7 million people by bus routes.

The cost of travel in Tashkent

From November 1, 2023, public bus fares within the city are set as follows :

  • In buses of city routes (except for fixed-route taxis) and the subway - 2 000 sum
  • In suburban buses within the city - 2 000 sum
  • Fixed-route taxis - according to tariffication
  • Outside the city - according to tariffing

The cost of unified transport cards (monthly travel cards) in Tashkent

From January 1, 2020, a transition was made to unified transport cards instead of monthly travel tickets. Unified transport cards allow you to travel 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 days without travel restrictions. The cost of a 30-day single card is equal to the cost of a monthly ticket.

Single (blue) cards can be purchased at any ATTO card kiosk (which used to sell travel cards and tokens), metro ticket offices, as well as through special, automated cartomats that are installed in many metro station lobbies.

List of persons entitled to free use of urban passenger transport (except taxis) in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 30, 1996 No. 278-I "On streamlining the free use of urban passenger transport"
  • participants in the war of 1941-1945 from among the military
  • invalids of the war of 1941-1945 and a person accompanying a invalid of the war of the 1st group on trips
  • persons awarded orders and medals for selfless work and impeccable military service in the rear during the war of 1941-1945
  • citizens from among the former military personnel-internationalists who took part in the hostilities in the Republic of Afghanistan and on the territory of other countries
  • persons who fell ill and suffered from radiation sickness caused by the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
  • disabled-blind persons and a person accompanying a disabled-blind person on trips
  • active military servicemen and servicemen under the contract of privates and sergeants (according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 14.01.2006 No. PP-257, Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 22.12.2009 No. 3RU-238)
  • When using urban passenger transport, regardless of the presence of a military uniform, they are required to present identification cards confirming their military rank.

In accordance with the order of the Agency for Road and River Transport dated January 29, 2013 No. 2, the above persons are required to have a special certificate and must present it to the conductor (driver) when using urban passenger transport. Special certificates and inserts are issued by the Department for Licensing and Coordination of the Movement of All Types of Urban Passenger Transport of the Khokimiyat of Tashkent (Tashkent, Amir Temur St., 1-proezd, 6).

Persons accompanying a war invalid of the 1st group and a blind invalid on trips are not issued a certificate. They enjoy the right to travel free of charge only when accompanied by the above persons.

Only the above military personnel are entitled to free travel with an identity card confirming military rank.

The right to travel free of charge applies to children under the age of 7 years.

All other passengers not included in the above list, incl. pensioners are obliged to pay 100% fare or use Unified Transport Cards. For pensioners, students of schools and colleges, students of universities, reduced tariffs of the Unified Transport Cards are provided.
